In this six-week immersive workshop, we will use magic and metaphor to transform our life stories. Parallel Narratives combine fortune telling, tarot, symbology, dream analysis and other interpretive tools to guide participants on a perspective-bending experience. Through exploratory exercises and mindful facilitation, Trish Denton will introduce the group to the tradition of oral storytelling. This is not a writing workshop. This is not The Moth. It is a conversational approach to story creation. Working from our life stories as a starting point, we will draw from a variety of folktales, pop culture and mythology to craft empowering new narratives. Be prepared to listen, speak up, and experiment with elaboration through collaboration. For the final class, we will host a storytelling circle to share our new narratives. You will walk away with a final piece, a new skill set, deeper knowledge of folklore and oral storytelling, as well as a personalized reading of folkloric symbolism that relates to your life story.
